This month marks two years since I moved to Tennessee and started this role—and I just want to say thank you. From day one, folks across the state welcomed me with warmth, kindness, and good conversation. Whether I’ve met you on a farm, at a county Extension meeting, or walking a pasture, you’ve made me feel right at home— Home Sweet Home to me, Good ol’ Rock Top. I’m proud to serve Tennessee farmers and even prouder to share something we’ve been working hard to deliver.

The Master Producer Program has long been a trusted resource for farmers here: a space to learn, connect, and grow in agriculture. But almost since my first week at UT, we have been discussing: “Can we have a version focused just on forage?” I’m happy to say that in 2024, the Tennessee Department of Agriculture approved the idea—and now, the Tennessee Master Forage Program is officially available statewide.

This new program was built with you in mind—from first-time farmers to lifelong forage producers—and offers flexible, practical education on everything from soil and fertility to grazing strategies, forage quality, weed control, silvopasture, economics, and more. You can take it online at your own pace or choose a hybrid option that includes an in-person Forage Tour or attendance at the Tennessee Forage and Grassland Council Annual Meeting. Either way, you’ll earn learning credits and gain skills that translate directly into better, more sustainable forage management.

Plus, completing the program qualifies you for the Tennessee Ag Enhancement Program (TAEP) cost-share. To learn more or register, visit utbeef.tennessee.edu/tennessee-master-forage-program or check in with your local Extension office.
